Pocket TV Browser has
returned! Browse TV Listings on your PDA just like "the good ol' days"
(well, almost).
Thursday, September 11, 2003
Pocket TV Browser has been
discontinued, until arrangements with a new listing provider can be worked out.
Despite our best efforts to work with
TV Guide Online, they have
asked us to stop distributing Pocket TV Browser in its current form, and we have
agreed. The full text of their request and our reply will be posted here
at a later date.
If you enjoyed having TV listings on your handheld, be sure to visit their
web site, click their "Customer
Service" link, and tell them what you think. If you were a Pocket TV Browser
user, we thank you for your support and understanding, and hopefully we'll be
back again, with a new, improved version. Thanks.
Monday, September 8, 2003
Our web site had to move to a new server. We're still in the process of
migrating the site. Forums and other resources are not available yet, but
should be soon.
If you're looking for Pocket TV Browser, visit the
Pocket TV Browser Download page.
Monday, August 25, 2003
Due to further changes to
TV Guide Online's listing
formats, we've released an update (version 1.51).
For information on where to download, look for the "Free Download" announcement
in the Pocket TV Browser Forum.
NOTE: This update replaces the previous update (version 1.50).
Thursday, August 21, 2003
TV Guide Online appears to
be functioning as before, so current users may be able to download listings
again.
For new users, a new FREE version of Pocket TV Browser is available. It should also restore the ability to download movie reviews
for upcoming movies into your database. The only other major difference in
the free version is that support will only be available through the Pocket TV Browser Forum,
and there are currently no plans to make further updates.
For information on where to download, look for the "Free Download" announcement
in the Pocket TV Browser Forum.
Because we can no longer be confident of the reliability or availability of
listings from
TV Guide Online, we felt it
was only fair to make the program available at no charge now, on a strictly
"as-is" basis. Thanks for your understanding.
Tuesday, August 19, 2003
Pocket TV Browser is no longer being sold.
TV Guide Online, our
program's primary source for U.S. TV listings, is actively blocking Pocket TV
Browser's access to their servers (using "ScraperBlock" technology). Until arrangements can be made with
another listing provider, current U.S. users will not be able to obtain new
listings. New users cannot be accepted until the problem is resolved, and
we have removed the product listing where possible.
If you purchased Pocket TV Browser in the last 30 days, you may contact your
software vendor for a refund. If you purchased from Handango, see
their
Defective Software Return Policy. If you purchased from PalmGear,
see their
Return/Refund Policy. If you purchased from PocketGear, send
email to support@pocketgear.com.
If you purchased directly from us in the last 30 days, via PayPal, send email to
refunds@palmapps.com, with a copy of
your electronic PayPal receipt if possible, and we'll process your refund
directly. If you purchased more than 30 days ago, there's nothing we can
do.
We cannot process refunds ourselves for purchases made through Handango, PalmGear, etc., because they are the only ones who can properly issue
a credit. However, if you're having trouble working with your vendor, you
can still send email to
refunds@palmapps.com and we'll see what we can do.
We apologize for the trouble, and wish there was something else we could do.
Removing the program from the market and offering refunds is the only reasonable
course of action we can take at this time. In the meantime, you're welcome
to visit the Pocket TV Browser Forum for other news and information, perhaps
even on alternative sources of TV listings. Thank you for your
understanding.
P.S. If the program becomes operational again, your registration code will
remain valid, even if you received a refund during this 30-day period.

fixes a few minor bugs that were recently reported, such as a Palm user name
truncation bug, a failure to preserve the category filter state in some cases,

Version 1.22 (Build 913) was released today. This update
disables Hi-Res font support on new PalmOS 5.0-based Sony devices (e.g., NX60
and NX70),
due to problems with Sony's HR support on those devices. We continue to
support Sony's HR features on earlier models, such as the NR70. This
update also fixes a bug with certain checkboxes on selected Filter pages. This update is FREE
to all registered 1.xx users, and includes all the other features and fixes
listed below.
Visit the Download page to find the right download

links, because Build 913 won't be available on the other web sites for a few

Version 1.21 (Build 906) was released today. This update adds
support for new U.S. regions that
TV Guide Online
now lists. It also adds a "0-5 Star" filter to the Ratings Filter page,
useful for people who incorporate movie review information into their database
(see the Pocket TV Manager Detail tab). Lastly, it adds Category
Color options to the Pocket PC and Handheld PC versions (previously only
available in the Palm version).
Wednesday, September 18, 2002
Version 1.20 (Build 905) was released today. This update fixes a
fatal error that could occasionally occur in the Pocket TV Manager Listing
Wizard, along with a few clarifications in some of the messages. If you're
not experiencing any problems, then there is no need to install this update.

fixes some cosmetic issues associated with color-coding, and slightly changes
the format of Palm DateBook reminders to make them more compatible with Pocket
PC Calendar reminders.
Monday, September 9, 2002
Version 1.20 (Build 903) was released today, and includes several
improvements, primarily for Palm users, including DateBook support,
color-coding, and more!
Thursday, August 22, 2002
Version 1.06c (Build 1639) was released today, to fix some problems in
previous 1.06c builds (up through 1638). Thanks to everyone who has been helping
test Version 1.06c!
In this version, Pocket TV
Manager now:
- Supports unnumbered channels found in certain international TV Guide Online
listings (e.g., "Mexico - Citaris")
- Checks for previous installations, to insure the same directory is used, and
automatically shuts down any running copy (provided it's not in the middle of a
download)
- Checks for duplicate channels, which can generate inconsistent schedules,
especially if a channel was renumbered to conflict with an existing channel
- Changes the way channel numbers are stored internally. Satellite users
can now use any one of the following channel prefixes (C, E, F, G, M, T, W, X)
and up to 4 digits; C-Band users will need to rebuild their
database after upgrading, for the new encodings to display correctly
- Supports alternate listing services that adhere to a new simplified listing
format (no genuine alternate services are available at this time however)
- Supports a new "time delta" feature on the first Listing Wizard screen, that
allows you to time-shift any set of listings (intended for advanced users only)
- Fixes some minor problems with the command-line interface
In addition, Pocket TV Browser now:
- Alphabetizes Favorites lists
- Corrects a problem with the "Exact Case" checkbox on the Search page
- Supports a new preference setting ("Show unique programs in Results");
it is set by default (old behavior)
- Switches the two right hardware buttons, to see if people who enable hardware
buttons prefer a more symmetric arrangement (Palm Version only)
This release will be FREE to all registered users when it is done
being tested.

Users recently reported trouble accessing all their channels. This was
caused by an error in the data on TV Guide's web servers. We have released
Pocket TV Browser Version 1.06b on the
Download page to compensate for the error. You can
install the newer version on top of your previous version. You must shut down
Pocket
TV Manager on your desktop PC first, but you do not need to uninstall it.
Wednesday, July 17, 2002
Fixes were made to both the Palm and Pocket PC versions of Pocket TV Browser
today. Version 1.06a (Build 1017) is now available on the
Download page. This version should take care of
an event overflow problem, and incorrect listings when using certain kinds of
category filters.
Recent enhancements to the Palm version include: scroll buttons in the lower right corner, and the ability to jump to a
particular channel by typing the channel number (using either Graffiti or
keyboard). Any Palm-compatible device should work now, as long as enough
storage memory is available.
Saturday, July 6, 2002
With Version 1.06a, Pocket TV Browser finally supports both Palm
and Pocket PC devices! See the Download
page for details.
A live demo of the Palm version is also available
online, using our cool Java-based
PIMulator™ technology.
Friday, May 31, 2002
Version 1.06 was made available on the
Pre-Release page. This update includes a few fixes (such as support
for yet another change to TV Guide Online's movie review links), but the main
goal of this release is to make sure that all the changes we're making for the
upcoming Palm version of Pocket TV Browser haven't broken anything. If
you're interested in helping us test the Palm version once the first "test
release" is ready (which should be in about 1-2 weeks), send email to
palmbeta@pimcity.com.
Registered users of the Pocket PC version will be able to use the same
registration code for the Palm version, and anyone who signs up for testing the
Palm version and provides significant feedback, or finds any serious bugs, will be eligible for a complimentary
registration code.

TV Guide Online's web servers are acting up today. The problem may be limited to
Satellite Dish services only. If you're trying to add new listings, and Pocket
TV Manager reports it is "unable to download listing information", then
double-check TV Guide
Online, to see if their servers are responding properly. If not,
you'll need to wait for them to fix the problem. You can also
contact
them directly.
In the meantime, we've added some Pocket
TV Browser Provider Information, for users who want more details about
supported services and listing providers.
Friday, May 3, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (Version 1.05b)
was made available on our Download page. This
update should restore the ability to include movie reviews from
TV Guide Online,
which recently changed their movie review links.
As always, updating is just a matter installing the newest version on top of
your current version. There's no need to uninstall anything first, and
there should be no need to re-enter your Registration Code or re-register.
Visit the Help page for answers to other
common questions.
Thursday, April 25, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (Version 1.05a)
was released to fix a problem synchronizing multiple databases, which
only affected users who had defined multiple "Locations". The built-in
"Virtual Pocket PC" (the desktop version of the browser) now includes
support for more mouse buttons, too.
Tuesday, April 2, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (Version 1.05)
was posted on our Download page. This update fixed a
problem with Pocket TV Manager's internal cache of downloaded listings.
Thursday, March 28, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (Version 1.04d)
was posted on our Download page. In
addition to the improvements below, this update also fixed a problem setting
up listings that users in some areas were experiencing.
Thursday, March 21, 2002
A new PRE-RELEASE version of Pocket TV Browser (Version 1.04b)
was posted on our Pre-Releases page. New
features include:
- Separate Favorite Programs and Favorite
Searches lists on the Browser's Home page
- New compression format that reduces database size by over
10%, with nominal impact on search speed
- New Performance tab option to turn new compression
format on or off (on by default)
- Pocket TV Manager HTML data cache compression, to reduce
the amount of disk space required for listing downloads
- A number of small improvements, including navigation
improvements, additional tips, diagnostics, etc.
And, for no particular reason, we added a
Guestbook to the web site. Feel free to "sign it". Thanks!
Thursday, March 7, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (Version 1.04)
was posted on our Download page. New
features include:
- The Pocket TV Browser Home page has a new optional
layout, with
links to some new lists (Category List, Movie List, etc.)
- The right side of the control pad now advances Time
Listings to the next half-hour, and Channel Listings to the next channel.
- Calendar Reminders can be marked as either Busy or
Free, and in Preferences, you can an enter a Category Name that all
reminders will use.
- Fonts can now be bold, and colors of selected items can be modified (see the
Fonts and Colors buttons on the Preferences page).
- Advanced Search Options are now available: search for
exact words, exact case, titles only, etc. Searching for names is
automatically more accurate, with no loss in speed.
- Channel Lists can now be toggled between numerical and
alphabetical lists with a single tap on the Channel List heading, similar to
how Program Lists are re-sorted.
- Locations can now be set to a specific time
zone, and Pocket TV Browser will now offer to adjust all your listing
times whenever you're in a different time zone.
- Multiple databases are now supported. This is ideal
for people who need to juggle listings for two or more locations or time
zones, and would rather not combine them into a single database (you select
the database when Pocket TV Browser starts up).
There have also been a number of improvements in Pocket TV Manager, including
the ability to set a Time Zone for any user-defined Locations. Most people
use only one location (the "Default" location), which has always been able to
combine any number of listings into a single database. But for people who
travel, or simply want an easy way to manage multiple databases, Locations are the answer.
As always, if you have any problems or questions about this update,
let us know, and we'll get back to you promptly. Thanks!
Monday, February 25, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (TEST Version 1.03a)
was posted on our Devices page. This
should resolve a time zone issue that some Canadian users of the new TV
Guide Live support encountered (if you're one of those users, you'll need to
go to the Listings tab and set up your listings again). Some other small
improvements in the handling of multiple locations and multiple channel listings
have been included in this update, too.
Friday, February 22, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (TEST Version 1.03)
was posted on our Devices page. Here are some
of the changes and features that have been added as of this version:
- We now support TV
Guide Live, a web-based listing service that provides better coverage for
Canada than TV Guide Online.
With the recent addition of
DirecTV, this brings the total number of web-based services that Pocket TV
Browser supports to three -- more than any program of its kind! There
are currently some limitations in the TV Guide Live support that we
will be addressing over time; see the 1.03 Release Notes for details.
Since this is a new service, if you're a Canadian user, please
let us know of any problems or
discrepancies you encounter.
- Pocket TV Manager now supports the notion of Locations,
which are collections of TV listings in separate databases. For example,
you could define a location named "Toronto" that contains cable listings from
TV Guide Live, and another location named "Seattle" that contains DirecTV
listings from TV Guide Online, resulting in two databases that you could then
choose from when you start up Pocket TV Browser.
- TV programs indicated as "Repeat" showings by TV Guide Online are now
marked with a special color (which you can now customize via
Preferences/Colors), as well as by the word "Repeat" on the program's Details
page.
- Added a Preference setting to Pocket TV Browser that allows it to start up
in the "By Time" view, instead of the Home page.
- Added a new "Help Index" page to the Pocket TV Browser help files.
Tuesday, February 12, 2002
An update to Pocket TV Browser (TEST Version 1.02a)
was posted on our Devices page. Here are some
of the changes and features that have been added as of this version:
- When adding new line-ups on the Listings tab, some users reported
trouble downloading provider information. Version 1.02a includes fixes
to address those problems.
- DirecTV users now have the option of including Pay-Per-View
channels in their line-up. On the last page of the Listings Wizard,
simply check the "Include PPV" checkbox, and after your next download, your
database should include all upcoming PPV program information. Note: this
option will increase the amount of time required to download listings
- The Date/Time page has been improved: the Calendar is always
visible, days with available listings are marked bold, and times can
now be selected from a list.
- Channels can now be renumbered. Click the "Renumber..."
button on the last page of the Listings Wizard. The wizard can be
accessed with either the "Add..." or "Properties..." button on Pocket TV
Manager's Listings tab.
- Movie Reviews and ratings can now be incorporated into your
database from TV Guide
Online's web site, as part of your regular listing download. On the
Detail tab, check "Download movie ratings", which will then allow you to specify a
rating threshold for reviews to be included in your database. When the
Browser displays a "Review" link on a Detail page, tap on the link to read the
detailed
CINEBOOKS review. Note: this feature can add a significant amount of
time to the download, and make your database larger, depending on your
threshold setting.
- Movie reviews are compressed inside Pocket TV Browser's database,
but connected users will soon have another option: "Review" links that take
up much less space and connect you directly to the online movie review.
- Program Lists now display not only Program Names, but also Release
Year, and if "Download movie ratings" is enabled, Rating
(0-5 stars) as well. Tap on the heading above any of the three columns
to re-sort the Program List instantly. This makes it easy to see, for
example, what 5-star movies are coming up in the next 2 weeks. Program
Lists are accessible from the menu ("View/By Program") as well as the "All
Programs" link on the Home page.
Some other minor improvements are in this version as well,
including a fix for a Channel Filter problem, and support for VCR Plus+ codes in
Calendar reminders.
Monday, February 4, 2002
Pocket TV Browser Version 1.01a was posted on our
Download page, to work around some
problems the TV Guide
Online web site started experiencing in the last 24 hours.
If you're not having any trouble downloading listings, then there's no need
to get this update. Otherwise, download the update, install it on top of
your existing version, and if you still see errors, increase the "Number of
retries" on the Performance tab. The same errors are occurring on the
TV Guide Online
web site, requiring many browser refreshes to get a channel listing, so let's
hope they fix the problem soon.
Monday, January 28, 2002
Pocket TV Browser Version 1.01 was posted on our
Download page. This update adds Calendar Support for Pocket PC users.
Using the Favorites icon, you can now add Reminders to your
Calendar while browsing a specific program showtime, or even a list of showtimes.
The update is available on our
Download page.
Friday, January 18, 2002
Pocket TV Browser Version 1.0 was just posted on
our Download page. Here's a
copy of our Press Release and
Shareware Advertisement. If you've already downloaded it, here are
Installation and Registration Instructions, as
well as Troubleshooting Tips.
This release includes support for Storage Cards, Proxy Servers, Uninstall,
Automatic Updates, and a number of browsing improvements, including a new way to
quickly display all your Favorite upcoming shows, and on-screen "tips" to help
you get the most out of Pocket TV Browser.
Version 1.0 is Shareware. It's fully functional for 2 weeks
from date of installation. After 2 weeks, you'll need to purchase a

We think Pocket TV Browser is the smallest, fastest, and
simplest way to browse TV listings and find what you're looking for instantly.
We hope you'll give it a try, and let us
know what you think. Thanks!
